(2021-2025) addressed grid congestion challenges in Amsterdam Southeast through innovative energy-sharing solutions and stakeholder collaboration.
How can we scale and replicate urgently needed solutions to energy grid congestion? What can we learn from four years of research and neighbourhood-level innovation, developed in collaboration with a broad range of regional energy stakeholders?
The newly published Continuation, Replicability & Scalability Summary report is now available on openresearch.amsterdam 💡
We were involved as the team Amsterdam together with JCA en AMS en the partners.
The key wins:
🔋 Leveraged existing battery capacity (Johan Cruijff ArenA) to reduce peak demand
📊 Developed data tools, including Alliander’s neighborhood analysis tool for energy hubs
🏡 Created TU Delft’s Digital Twin Model for sustainable urbanization planning
🧑🤝🧑 Supported local energy cooperatives for long-term community impact
The results? Both Venserpolder residents’ cooperative and ArenApoort’s Green Business Club companies are continuing their collective energy transition and tackling grid congestion post-project.
📝 The Public Summary of the Continuation, Replicability & Scalability report showcases tools and insights from Amsterdam Southeast that can be scaled to other regions facing similar grid challenges.
